EN> So this trip was meant to be the best trip ever! As we were meant to be seeing Royal Blood and the Foo Fighters so I just couldn’t wait but as you probably know Dave Grohl went and broke his leg so the gig was canceled but we already had the hotel and train tickets so we decided to go and do some things we were wanting to do in Edinburgh for a while. Edinburgh is magical city you can totally see how it inspired J.K. Rowling, anything you see looks right out of Diagon Alley, one of the many reasons why I love it.
EN> We started the day exploring some of the markets that were going on. Unfortunately it was a bit late so everything was kinda over then we went on to have dinner at the Mark Greenway Restaurant, OMG best decision ever. Everything was so delicious it was just unreal. I ordered beef carpaccio for starter, pork belly for a main and rocks and moss for dessert and it was glorious. To make things better all of a sudden I hear my husband make this little squeak of joy and I was like mm what? (he doesn’t usually makes this kidna noises) and he pointed out that Ian Rankin had walked in the door (he loves him). So he got to have a little chat with him as he waited for the rest of his party to arrive so yeah he super loves that restaurant now (as if the food was not enough reason).
EN> After that we headed to Panda & Sons a speakeasy styled bar that I had been nagging my husband for ages to go to and I’m so happy we finally did. Hands down my favorite bar in Edinburgh and one of the coolest themed places I have been to. Also super love the fact that they seem concerned with keeping their customers hydrated all bars should pick up on that I believe.
EN> Second day we went for afternoon tea as I thought it was just about time I experienced this after more than a year in the UK and it did not disappoint. Afternoon tea is a British thing where they bring you sandwiches and treats in a little tower with of course a cup of tea. I had read of it but never really was too fussed to try it until a few months ago. It was everything I hoped for and more tho I wish I had more sandwiches (but I eat more than the average person). I choose apple tea and my husband did not approve but he was not the one drinking it lets face it breakfast tea (his choice) is not great tasting I don’t know why british people love it so much.
EN> After that we headed to the Royal Botanic Gardens as we kept seeing photos and posts about the gigantic corpse flower, Amorphophallus Titanum. Curiosity got the best of us, the gardens are free (apart from the bit where they have this gigantic flower of course).
EN> And the not free part.
EN> Even if you don’t want to pay there are quite a few things to do there my favorite being a free art gallery with Nicolas Party’s Boys & Pastels exhibit which I really enjoyed.
EN> We went for quick pick me up drink and food at The Bon Vivant – another incredibly cool place (I’m just going to say that while in Edinburgh every place is most likely to be incredibly cool, at least in my eyes). It was super busy so after our drinks and snack we walked to the restaurant where we were supposed to have dinner, the only not incredibly cool place maybe haha. A horrible choice! I was blinded by my need to eat Mexican food and their deceptive descriptions but it was just a disappointment so to cheer me up and lower my rage my husband took me to Panda & Sons again and everything was good with the world again.
On our last day we had just enough time to go and visit a free gallery but when we arrived at the train station the left luggage storage was full and as it was pouring down. So we didn’t really fancy just walking around with luggage so we just chillaxed in a hotel near the station (a very fancy hotel) and waited there. No literature gods this time.
Train book: My heart and other black holes. Totaly recomend!
